EVALUATION

Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
As I chose to create a thriller I used eerie, creepy music which questions's the viewer, which is what a thriller is all about. I used a white based room, and was able to have the facilties of several spotlights which I placed around the room to make the charracter look abit darker, I done this to show the dark side to my character, it also represented isolation which was what she was feeling.
Majority of my camera shots that I used were CU (close up) and MCU (Medium close up) I wanted to show all the emotions on the characters face's as my charaters didnt speak, it was all about the physical movement and face. This helped add to the effect of showing the dark side to the characters. I used the theme song from the film 'The Orphan'even thought this film's a horror, I personally think that it fitted
with my genre of a thriller as it's very mysterious and story-telling which is apart of the conventions of a thriller.
My thriller challenged the conventions by incorporatingg images of death at the begining of the film, rather than the end.

Q2: How does your media product represent particualar social groups?
I have used teenage actors in my film as i feel that they could relate to the real life situations that teenagers go through, and it makes it look more realistic as my characters are teenegers themselves. Ive used mixed gendre so it appeals to everyone. my actors are of working class and attend college, they are also of mixed ethnictity which shows a variety of people.

Q3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I've researched into different media institutions and found out that mojority of the film companies distribute Thrillers such as: New Line Cinema,Paramount and Warner Brots. so i think they would also distribute mine because it's a 'typical' thriller. they've released films such as: The Dark Knight,Snakes on a plane, The final destination and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider which are all thrillers.
I think my film would also be a big budget venture as i feel that it coudld be very sucessfull.

Q4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
My film target audience is mainly aimed at 15-25 year olds as i feel the genre is more aimed at working class people, i belive higher class people wouldn't watch a thriller or maybe go the the cinema atall as they a maybe more drawn to theatre productins. In terms of gendre it's aimed at both male and females. During my questionaire I found out that some females didnt like the fact that thrillers are male oreientated so i had a female as my main character so it appeals to those, I have also used a male as a main character.

Q5: How did you attract/address your audience?
I think I have a mysterious storyline, my opening shows a dead body and also clues into how it all happend which I think is good as it would make the audience think and draw them in. My opening begins with a girl dead on the floor, so automatically I think the viewers will start to ask questions and want to find out what happen's next. My characters are very relatable and I want to show the realness of my storyline which is why I chose teenagers to act rather than older people, I also feel that this is somthing that is different to normal thrillers, as most of them i've watched have used adults, which I think will appeal to many people.
My titles are quite plain but i think very effective, i used a black background with white writing to give the impression of a ghostly feel with a mixture of darkness. The music i used in my opening is the theme song from The Orphan and i think it's perfect for my opening sequence as it will grab the audience's attention straight away, it's very creepy and mysterious.
To attract my audience at the cinema I would create posters and make a trailer which will be shown before other films start, the age limit for my film would be a 15 as i dont think it's appropriate for ages younger, so I would promote it most with cinema's and places were teeangers and adults would be.

Q6:What have you learn't about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
By making this product i have learnt how to use most aspects of final cut pro, ive also learnt that it's not as easy as it seems, the editing process takes up most of the time and alot of effort has to go into making it, but once you get used to it, it gets easier. Using blogspot was very easy to use, the step by step quide to create your blog was easy to follow which helped alot. Using the mini DV camera was also very straight forward, but using it hand held was quite hard so i had to practice to get a steady shot but overall i used the tripod on most of my shots.
Overall ive learnt that all technologies are different and some are easier than others but once i knew what to do it was pretty easy.

Q7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back, im very happg that I stayed to my choice of working alone as i feel it would've stopped me from doing most of the things that i've done, I also feel like my concentration was much better because I didnt have to re-think about my ideas, as I felt much more independant.
